A team of biologists and physicists at UC San Diego has uncovered in detail the dynamic process that allows the multi-tentacle Hydra, a tiny freshwater animal distantly related to the sea anemone, to open and close its mouth.
UC San Diego Health and Vantage Oncology are collaborating to provide comprehensive cancer care services to patients in Imperial Valley. Through a joint venture, UC San Diego Health and Vantage will operate Imperial Valley Radiation Oncology. Patients will have access to advanced radiation technologies as well as clinical trial interventions and specialty care consultations with UC San Diego Health and Moores Cancer Center.
The University of California, San Diego and Centro de Ensenanza Tecnica y Superior (CETYS) of Baja California, Mexico have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen and increase collaboration, focusing on entrepreneurship, innovation and policy. The initiative was formalized March 3 by UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla and CETYS University President Fernando Leon Garcia.
Researchers at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego have developed a new method for improving atmospheric river forecasts based on collecting special observations using two aircraft in atmospheric rivers over the northeast Pacific Ocean. The method was used for the first time in February in National Weather Service-directed flights over the Pacific Ocean.
John Holdren, President Barack Obama’s senior science and technology advisor, spent the day at UC San Diego Monday meeting with faculty members and giving a public talk about efforts to promote science and engineering at the national level.
