Biological Sciences Professor Yishi Jin, who investigates the roots of the nervous system, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors in health and medicine.
Carrie Mae Weems, a celebrated American artist and University of California San Diego visual arts alumna, was presented the National Medal of Arts by President Joe Biden at a White House ceremony on Oct. 21. Artist Mark Bradford, whose work is included in the university’s public art collection, the Stuart Collection, was also recognized.
Jonathan Ty, a sophomore majoring in computer science, has been awarded the 2024-2025 Alan Turing Memorial Scholarship and the Alan Turing Memorial Teradata Scholarship from the University of California San Diego’s Center for Networked Systems (CNS). Each year CNS recognizes a student whose studies relate to networked systems and who is an active supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community.
