Steven Schick Named Inaugural Holder of UC San Diego Reed Family Presidential Chair in Music

Steven Schick, a percussionist, conductor, author and distinguished professor of music at UC San Diego, is known for charging into new frontiers of contemporary music. As a soloist and director, he has performed with and led numerous local and international ensembles. In support of his teaching, research and service activities, Schick has been appointed the inaugural holder of the Reed Family Presidential Chair in the Division of Arts and Humanities.

UC San Diego Health System Named Center of Excellence for Huntington’s Disease

The Huntington's Disease Clinical Research Center (HDCRC) at UC San Diego Health System has been designated a Center of Excellence by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA). UC San Diego was one of only 29 centers nationwide to receive this prestigious designation, which recognizes centers for their elite multidisciplinary approach to Huntington's disease care and research.

Most of these students are the first in their families to embark upon a university education. Many come from underserved areas of San Diego and Imperial counties. The Preuss School UCSD Ranked Best High School in San Diego County by U.S. News & World Report

The Preuss School UCSD—a charter middle and high school for low-income students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college—has been ranked the best high school in San Diego County by U.S. News & World Report, which recently released its annual list of “Best High Schools.” Located on the campus of the University of California, San Diego, the school is also ranked the 5th best high school in California, the 9th best charter school in the country and 39th overall in the nation.

UC San Diego Physicist to Receive Gothenburg Lise Meitner Award

Ivan Schuller, a distinguished professor of physics at UC San Diego, will receive the 2015 Gothenburg Lise Meitner Award for “creating the field of metallic superlattices and recognizing the impact of these materials on magnetism and superconductivity.”

UC San Diego Professors Elected to National Academy of Sciences

The National Academy of Sciences today elected five professors at the University of California, San Diego, to membership in the prestigious National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honors bestowed on U.S. scientists and engineers.
