Students Take Top Prize for Seaport Village Development Plan

A team of students representing the UC San Diego Urban Studies and Planning program won the sixth annual NAIOP University Real Estate Challenge April 21. Five students from the Division of Social Sciences and Jacobs School of Engineering presented their proposal for the redevelopment of downtown’s iconic Seaport Village to a packed house and panel of judges, competing against teams from San Diego State University and the University of San Diego.

Khosla, Executive Vice Chancellor Suresh Subramani and University Librarian Brian Schottlaender in celebrating the grand opening of Audrey’s, the long-awaited Geisel Library café, named for Library benefactor and longtime friend and supporter of the university Audrey Geisel.

From the experiences of an East African immigrant working as a dishwasher to those of a long-term, loving couple, UC San Diego’s 2016 Wagner New Play Festival features five new plays, May 3 – 12, in The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theatre District located on the La Jolla campus. Two of the premiere pieces, described as highly personal and powerful, are by award-winning M.F.A. playwrights in the Department of Theatre and Dance.

As a child in Vietnam, Huy Nguyen gazed up at the sky with wonder. Space travel and rockets captivated him. A career focused on our universe, however, seemed like unlikely, if not impossible. Yet with hard work, coupled with the support of his family and the community, Nguyen is now pursuing his lifelong passion as an aerospace engineering major at UC San Diego.
