UC San Diego joined more than 100 countries across the globe in celebrating the world’s cultures, peoples and languages for International Education Week (IEW), Nov. 17 to 21. The week of events allowed students to participate in performances about their heritages, view an international film festival and compete in UC San Diego’s very own “Triton World Cup” soccer match.
The University of California, San Diego will honor World AIDS Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 1 with a variety of free, public events, including a viewing of portions of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, which is the largest ongoing community arts project in the world.

Reflecting upon the opportunities and challenges that have shaped the campus, UC San Diego’s fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth chancellors will come together—for the first time—to discuss the campus’s history and rise to prominence. “Through Their Eyes: A Conversation with Our Chancellors” will take place tomorrow, Nov. 14, at 11:30 a.m. in Price Center East Ballroom, as part of this year’s Founders Celebration.
At Castle Park High School last Friday, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Juan González shared with students his own experience with applying to college and working to succeed as an undergraduate. A first-generation college student, González overcame many of the same challenges—and fears—that students today face in pursuing higher education.
Aging is something we all do. It’s a matter of how well we do it. As we get older, almost every aspect of life conjures new and pressing questions. It’s the same for individuals and for graying nations. (By 2030, one in five Americans will be 65 years or older. For the first time, older adults will outnumber children.) Some questions, like health care, are obvious: Who will take care of us? Will we get the medicines and treatments we need? Can we afford them?
