December 5, 2024 — SDSC has been awarded an EAGER award to enable research groups to effectively use NVIDIA DGX cloud platforms. This includes optimization of system setups, performance monitoring and determining the best ways to run National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource Pilot projects on the resources.

December 3, 2024 — With financial technology (fintech) a focal point of India’s changing 21st century economy, the University of California San Diego has joined a consortium in partnership with Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), Ahmedabad University and IIT Gandhinagar to launch the GIFT International Fintech Institute (GIFT IFI) aimed at establishing India as a global leader in fintech. As the first university of its kind in the U.S. to step into the economic growth trajectory of India and the surrounding region, UC San Diego will help deliver advanced training and research and nurture top talent to meet the sector’s evolving needs

October 31, 2024 — As the world faces challenges from climate change to public health, data-intensive solutions have become more significant. In light of this, the Data Planet Initiative at the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute (HDSI), one of the pillars of the School of Computing, Information and Data Sciences (SCIDS) at UC San Diego, has been providing Ph.D. students with opportunities to engage in real-world, data-centric projects alongside faculty and industry partners.

October 15, 2024 — Researchers from the San Diego Supercomputer Center, part of the School of Computing, Information and Data Sciences (SCIDS) at UC San Diego, have launched a new initiative to advance science and technology that addresses wildland fire challenges in an era of more frequent and devastating megafires. 

September 11, 2024 — The San Diego Supercomputer Center at UC San Diego and the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) have developed a prescient AI education infrastructure called CENIC AI Resource for K-12 education, public libraries, community colleges, the CSU and UC campus systems.

August 29, 2024 — The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has renewed funding for OpenTopography, a science gateway that advances understanding of the Earth’s surface, vegetation and built environment. OpenTopography is a comprehensive platform for open access to high-resolution (one meter pixel resolution or better) and global topographic data that is utilized by an international community of researchers, educators, government agencies, industry and hobbyists.

July 18, 2024 — The University of California Board of Regents has approved the creation of the new School of Computing, Information and Data Sciences at UC San Diego, a critical advance in UC San Diego’s long history of leading innovation and education in artificial intelligence, computing and data science.

July 16, 2024 — A dozen buildings on the University of California San Diego campus. All of the campus’ solar panels. All the chargers for electric vehicles. More than 2,400 light fixtures. More than 800 smart plugs. These are some of the assets that DERConnect, a NSF-funded testbed for the powergrid, will be able to control on the UC San Diego campus.
