Why do people around the world come to see some figures as so important, and how have their meanings changed over time? These questions lie at the heart of the new book “Icons of Dissent: The Global Resonance of Che, Marley, Tupac, and Bin Laden.” Author Jeremy Prestholdt explains more in this Q&A.
Technology, processes and online learning in general have significantly changed since UC San Diego launched the Office for Online and Technology Enhanced Education in 2015. That office has since transitioned into Digital Learning under the Teaching + Learning Commons, and we recently had an opportunity to talk with Director Karen Flammer to learn more.
UC San Diego researchers published a systematic analysis of microgrids in Southern California to better understand business cases for private investment in microgrids. From the abstract: “Decentralization [of the electric power grid] could radically reduce customer energy costs, but without the right policy framework it could create large numbers of small decentralized sources of gas-based carbon emissions that will be difficult to control if policy makers want to achieve deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.”
Rubén Flores, Ph.D., is the Director of Commercialization in UC San Diego’s Office of Innovation and Commercialization. Announcing his appointment in March of this year, Vice Chancellor for Research Sandra Brown said that he exemplifies the high-achieving entrepreneurial spirit necessary for new discoveries and new solutions.
Professor of Molecular Biology Kit Pogliano keeps busy with teaching and research focused on cellular dynamics and microbial interactions. Still, she dedicates extensive time and effort to serving as chair of UC San Diego’s Standing Committee on Service and People Oriented Administrative Culture (SC-SPOC). Why?
