UC San Diego Again Recognized as Top College by Peace Corps

The University of California, San Diego ranks 15th nationally among large schools on the Peace Corps’ 2015 Top Colleges list. This marks the fifth consecutive year that UC San Diego has been named in the top 15 in Peace Corps’ rankings and the ninth straight year that it has appeared in the top 25.

The annual Peace Corps rankings recognize the highest volunteer-producing colleges and universities for small, medium, large and graduate institutions. There are currently 39 undergraduate alumni from UC San Diego serving overseas in the Peace Corps. In total, UC San Diego has produced 790 Peace Corps volunteers.

“We take enormous pride in once again being recognized by the Peace Corps as one of the nation’s top volunteer producing schools,” said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “UC San Diego’s commitments to public service and civic engagement are core strengths that have enabled our campus to educate generations of individuals dedicated to Peace Corps’ mission of promoting world peace.”

UC San Diego’s commitment to civic engagement has also been lauded by the Washington Monthly, which rated the campus as the No. 1 college in the nation for the fifth consecutive year. The rankings are based on three categories: social mobility, research and service; the service category includes the number of UC San Diego alumni who go on to serve in the Peace Corps.

Alumni from more than 3,000 colleges and universities nationwide have served in the Peace Corps since the agency’s founding in 1961.

In total, six University of California system campuses are ranked on the list of top 25 large universities this year.
