The Preuss School UCSD Named Local Peacemaker

The Preuss School UCSD was honored with the Local Peacemaker Award by the National Conflict and Resolution Center (NCRC), a San Diego-based nonprofit organization specializing in alternative conflict resolution services, mediation training and credentialing. The Preuss School was honored during NCRC’s 25th annual Peacemaker Awards, which recognizes individuals and organizations for their creative and effective collaborations and solutions to crises and conflict.

“It is truly rewarding to be recognized by NCRC with this award,” said Preuss principal Scott Barton, who accepted the award on behalf of the school along with senior Brock Puente. “Our school’s mission includes the development of strong character, a healthy lifestyle, good judgment, ethical behavior and instilling a sense of service to one’s home community. We strive to empower our students to transform their own lives as well as positively impact the lives of those around them.”

Preuss is a unique charter middle and high school for low income, highly-motivated students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from a four-year college or university. Located on the UC San Diego campus, the school is jointly chartered by UC San Diego and the San Diego Unified School District.
In addition to Preuss, NCRC also recognized the USNS Mercy, the lead hospital ship for the U.S. Navy. The ship and its crew were honored with the National Peacemaker Award.
