UC San Diego Basketball Debuts on the National Stage

Men’s and women’s basketball teams made their March Madness debut in 2025.

In a historic year, both the UC San Diego men's and women's basketball teams were victorious in their respective Big West Championship games in Henderson, Nevada. Both teams earned spots to compete in the coveted March Madness Tournament — making UC San Diego the first school in history to have both its men’s and women’s basketball teams qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships in their first year of eligibility. And while the women fell to Southern, 68-56, and the men were edged out by Michigan, 68-65, it was an unforgettable season for all Tritons.
