UC San Diego's annual Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational has raised more than $12 million in funding for cancer research since it was established 31 years ago

The community gathered recently for the 31st annual Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational to raise funds to fight cancer. With over 70 participants and 16 surf teams, the invitational was filled with energy and camaraderie for the cause. Participants raised funds for cancer research at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, surpassing $12 million over the event’s history.

Under the sun at Scripps Pier, surfers, supporters and survivors enjoyed a lively surfing competition. The event concluded with the recognition of the Rell Sunn honoree, who exemplified the spirit of resilience and dedication to the cause, and a silent auction that added to the fundraising efforts.

The funds raised during the event will continue to support cutting-edge research and compassionate patient care, offering hope and advancements in the fight against cancer.
