The Hoops for the Hub tournament was the brainchild of UC San Diego Police Officer Chris Walters, whose infectious enthusiasm created a fun opportunity for service among participants including students, members of the UC San Diego Police and City of San Diego Police Departments and other community members from across the region.

“The UCPD’s mission, much like the Hub, is to support and serve our students and campus community so that they can thrive,” said Walters. “It was a privilege and an honor to see so many students and community supporters turn out to raise awareness of the vital service and support the Hub provides on our campus. We look forward to making this event a UC San Diego tradition for many years to come.”

Only one team could claim hoops victory at the end of the day. Team Randle dominated to take home the trophy.

The biggest winner of the day was The Hub Basic Needs Center. Nearly 1 in 5 students experiences barriers to accessing basic needs, so the Hub serves as lifeline to address the gaps and concerns students have accessing nutritious food, stable housing and financial wellness resources. Hub team members and volunteers tabled throughout the event to raise awareness of the Hub’s important work.
