Q-MEEN-C Celebrates the Next Four Years
UC San Diego energy frontier research center celebrates $12.6M in renewed funding from the Department of Energy

Quantum Materials for Energy Efficient Neuromorphic Computing (Q-MEEN-C), led by the University of California San Diego, celebrated $12.6M in renewed funding from the Department of Energy with a morning reception event attended by campus leadership, elected officials, scientists and students.
Guests enjoyed breakfast while networking and reconnecting with colleagues around the country. Short remarks were given by UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla and the Q-MEEN-C leadership team — Director Ivan Schuller, Associate Director Oleg Shpyrko and Assistant Director Alex Fraño.
Congressman Scott Peters, who represents the 52nd district where UC San Diego is located, also spoke at the event. At the conclusion of the remarks, he was presented with a commemorative plaque that contained a neuromorphic chip. In 2019, Rep. Peters was named a Champion of Science by The Science Coalition in recognition of his support for federal investment in fundamental scientific research, such as the work being conducted by Q-MEEN-C.
The mission of Q-MEEN-C is to use quantum materials to achieve neuromorphic computing capabilities with low energy consumption that mimic the processing power of the brain.
