Ten Years of Firsts

In true start-up fashion, the Rady School of Management has moved fast and achieved much in its short history. Significant milestones over the last 10 years include:
2001
- UC Regents approve the creation of the School of Management
2003
- Robert S. Sullivan is named founding dean
- Fundraising efforts commence to raise money for the Rady School campus.
- The Center for Executive Development delivers its first non-degree programs
2004
- UC San Diego names its Management School the Rady School of Management in recognition of the leadership support and generous gift by Evelyn and Ernest Rady and the Rady Family Foundation
- Dr. J. Robert and Betty Beyster with matching funds from SAIC make founding gift including the integration of the Beyster Institute into the Rady School of Management
- Rady School moves to Pepper Canyon Hall
- First FlexWeekend MBA class matriculates
2005
- First Full-time MBA class matriculates
2006
- Pauline Foster makes founding gift to endow The Stanley and Pauline Foster Endowed Chair, the university’s first $5 million endowed faculty chair.
2007
- First FlexEvening MBA class matriculates
- Rady School moves to its permanent facilities at Otterson Hall. Funded almost entirely with private support, the building was named in honor of the late William (Bill) Otterson, co-founder of UCSD CONNECT, in appreciation for his contributions to the San Diego business community and his impact on the region
2008
- First Concurrent Scripps Institution of Oceanography/Rady School of Management Ph.D. MBA student matriculates
2009
- First Ph.D. class matriculates
- Undergraduate accounting minor begins
- Wells Fargo makes founding gift
2011
- Undergraduate business minor begins
- Partnership with UC San Diego Health Sciences launched with first group of Health Sciences faculty matriculating into FlexMBA program in fall 2011
- AACSB Business Accreditation earned
2012
- The Rady School campus is completed with the opening of Wells Fargo Hall, an 81,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility housing:
- The 295-seat J.R. Beyster Auditorium
- The fifth floor Ernest and Evelyn Rady Sky Pavilion
- The Atkinson Behavioral Research Laboratory
- A dedicated space for MBA students to be used for study and collaboration, including the Vision Student Commons lounge
- State-of-the-art conference rooms and classrooms provided by the generous support of Jan Tuttleman, Craig Lambert, Arthur Brody and Tony Thornley
2013
- Launch of StartR Accelerator
- Funding for the U.S. – Israel Center
