Established in 2019, the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health at UC San Diego builds on the university’s strengths in research and public health. Launching its first academic year in 2020, the school now celebrates its fifth commencement and largest class - 333 graduates.
In a study of older adult women with diabetes, metformin, a widely used diabetes medication, was associated with a 30% lower risk of death before age 90 compared to use of sulfonylurea, another diabetes medication.
