UC San Diego is embarking on an era of transformation – one that will improve our campus and increase our societal impact – thanks to the collective creation of our first-ever Strategic Plan. That was the message Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla shared at the April 24 Town Hall at the Faculty Club.

Alan Houston, provost of Eleanor Roosevelt College and current chair of the Council of Provosts, will serve as UC San Diego’s Interim Vice Chancellor – Student Affairs beginning July 1. Houston joined the UC San Diego faculty in 1989 as a professor of political science and has served as provost for the last three and a half years.

Vice Chancellor – Student Affairs Penny Rue has been at UC San Diego for nearly six years, and will depart from her post at the end of June.

The campus-wide strategic planning process is officially underway and all campus members are invited to participate throughout the academic year. The first two town hall meetings will take place on Dec. 6 and Dec. 10, and are geared toward faculty and staff because students are getting ready for finals’ week. Student-focused town halls will be scheduled for early next year.

More than 3,300 members of the UC San Diego community donated over 62,000 hours of service during the university’s 50th anniversary celebration, contributing roughly $1.5 million of free labor, according to calculations from Independent Sector, which provides the value of a volunteer hour.
