UC San Diego Ranked 12th Nationally Among Peace Corps’ Top Colleges

This marks the fourth consecutive year that UC San Diego has been named in the top 15 in Peace Corps’ ranking of large universities and the eighth straight year that it has appeared in the top 25. In total, UC San Diego has produced 774 Peace Corps volunteers.

The University of California, San Diego ranks 12th nationally among large schools on Peace Corps’ 2014 Top Colleges list, up from 13th place last year. The campus took the No. 4 spot among large California schools in the annual list which recognizes the highest volunteer-producing colleges and universities for small, medium, large and graduate institutions. There are currently 54 undergraduate alumni from UC San Diego serving overseas in the Peace Corps.

“We are extremely proud of the contributions our alumni have made through their service in the Peace Corps,” said UC San Diego’s Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “These volunteers help carry out UC San Diego’s tradition of public service, enriching lives and communities around the globe.”

Since 1961, the Peace Corps, an international service organization of the United States, has sent Americans abroad to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world. Peace Corps volunteers work at the grassroots level with local governments, schools, communities, small businesses and entrepreneurs to develop sustainable solutions that address challenges in education, health, economic development, agriculture, environment and youth development.
