UC San Diego Ranked No. 6 Best Value Public College by The Princeton Review

The University of California San Diego is one of the nation’s top universities for students seeking a great education at an affordable price, according to The Princeton Review’s Best Value Colleges for 2022.
Alongside the full list of Best Value Colleges for 2022, The Princeton Review shares seven categories of ranking lists that focus on different aspects of financial aid and career preparation. UC San Diego placed No. 6 in the outlet’s “Top 50 Best Value Colleges (Public Schools)” list.
“At UC San Diego, we are dedicated to continuing to expand access and affordability while investing in student support services that enable all students to thrive,” said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “These resources aid our world-class faculty to develop academic and enrichment programs that prepare students for the careers of tomorrow, which increases opportunities for advancing economic mobility.”
The rankings feature colleges that share the following three attributes: stellar academics, affordable cost and strong career prospects for graduates. Each college is assigned an ROI (Return on Investment) rating, drawing from information such as academics, costs, financial aid, debt, graduation rates and career/salary data.
Over 650 institutions were considered for the final 209 universities profiled in the 2022 Best Value Colleges list. This outlet does not rank all colleges hierarchically on a single list.
UC San Diego performed well in the following ranking lists:
- No. 5 | Top 20 Best Career Placement (Public Schools)
- No. 6 | Top 50 Best Value Colleges (Public Schools)
- No. 7 | Top 20 Best Value Colleges for Students With No Demonstrated Need (Public Schools)
- No. 15 | Top 20 Best Schools for Financial Aid (Public Schools)

The annual program matches students with alumni and community members, facilitating mentorship, job shadowing opportunities and conversation around valuable job insights. The Princeton Review consistently recognizes UC San Diego as a leader in its college rankings, most recently featuring the university as part of its annual The Best Colleges book.
