Triton Center is now on its way to becoming a reality. The highly anticipated campus gateway will transform University Center into a vibrant and socially dynamic destination for the university community and visitors alike. Slated to open in 2026, the four-building, 332,000-square-foot complex will centralize essential programs and services while also providing spaces for relaxation and enrichment.

The most prominent structure, the Alumni and Welcome Center, will be a beacon of light and sound — a signal of pride to guide UC San Diego alumni back home.

“The Alumni and Welcome Center will the home away from home for our returning alumni,” says Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “When our alumni come to mentor students, take a class or experience a world-class performance, this center will be their first stop and first impression of our transformed campus.”

Across a plaza, the Student Success Building will house the Triton Transfer Center, Teaching + Learning Commons and Global Initiatives. An easily identifiable Student Success Help Desk will serve as a station for coordinators to help peers navigate campus services relevant to their individual needs. The Student Health and Well-Being Building will include clinical spaces and a pharmacy, providing a hub to access support for student mental and physical health through quality care worthy of UC San Diego Health’s global reputation.

Triton Center will also serve as the gateway to strengthen the connection between campus and our local community. Event and recreational venues will provide easy access to the evolving intellectual, artistic and cultural assets of UC San Diego, including a world-class art gallery that magnifies our community’s diversity and showcases our technological preeminence.

The complex will be located at 9500 Gilman Drive, just east of Center Hall and south of the Price Center. Approved by the UC Regents in March 2023, a groundbreaking is planned for later this year. The Triton Center Complex is slated to open in early 2026.
