UC San Diego students filled Ridge Walk on Monday for the annual Student Services Fair, a signature Welcome Week event designed to give new and continuing students the opportunity to learn about the wide variety of student resources available on campus. Representatives from academic majors, student organizations, athletics and several central service departments greeted students with warm welcomes and giveaway items.

“It’s really exciting to be here,” said Esther Jung, a freshman at Eleanor Roosevelt College. “The people here are so friendly and there are so many opportunities to get involved and explore.”

Across from RIMAC, Outback Adventures operated a climbing wall while King Triton posed for photos. Academic Enrichment Programs hosted another popular booth where students could find out about summer research opportunities and the Faculty Mentor Program.

Farther down the walkway, Volunteer50 invited new students to get involved with service projects, the Programs Abroad Office offered information about studying overseas and Housing, Dining and Hospitality’s EcoNauts shared tips for living sustainably.

“It was great meeting new students and seeing their enthusiasm for volunteering,” said staff member Vanessa Pool at the Volunteer50 booth. “When I told one student that UC San Diego is known for giving back to the community, she said that was why she chose our campus.”
