The university wants to clarify that the video circulating on social media is from an Associated Students (student government) meeting on November 1, 2023. The person who posted the video had incorrect information about a UC San Diego building being evacuated where Jewish students were speaking.

In planning for the November 1, 2023 Associated Students meeting, Tritons for Israel worked with Student Affairs and UC San Diego police to provide preplanned security and escorts. Police did not evacuate the building.

In our prior statement based on the information that we had at the time, we incorrectly stated that the video had been edited into another video.

Our top concern remains the safety of our community. To ensure everyone’s safety, we will continue to provide security for all Associated Students meetings for the time being. As the President and Chancellors stated in their prior messages to campus, there is no room for antisemitism or any other kind of hate. We work to ensure our campus is safe for everyone while protecting free speech and academic freedom. You can find their complete statement here.

Statement updated on November 19, 2023.
