The Conferences for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP) is organized each year by the American Physical Society to help undergraduate majors build their networks and further their careers in physics, astronomy and related fields. CU*iP is actually a series of conferences held across the country over the same weekend. For the second time, UC San Diego was selected as one of 14 sites for this year's conference, which was co-hosted by the Departments of Physics and Astronomy & Astrophysics.

The national and local organizing committees of CU*iP strive to create a welcoming environment for all. The conference featured a wide range of activities, with faculty plenary speakers, a national keynote speaker, workshops on navigating graduate school and career paths, networking and mentorship opportunities, and a venue for participants to present their research. UC San Diego's event was organized and supported by a team of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and faculty members.

“Being part of the CU*iP planning team was a meaningful way to support the next generation of physicists. It was inspiring to see how much participants valued the experience," stated Robin Glefke, a UC San Diego physics graduate student and conference co-chair. "It was equally heartening to witness the strong support from our faculty. Their involvement gives me a lot of hope for the future of science!”

"This is an incredible opportunity for women and gender minorities — who are underrepresented in physics and astronomy majors — to network with their peers in the region, which this year included Mexico," stated Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics Adam Burgasser. "By sharing their experiences and research with each other, they are making professional and personal connections that will open doors for their future careers."
