The University of California San Diego again received a record number of applications, with 99,115 freshmen and 19,257 transfer students applying for fall 2019 admission. Applications to the campus, one of the world’s top research universities, have been steadily climbing for more than a decade.

The University of California San Diego has been named the nation’s fifth best public university, according to U.S. News and World’s Report’s Best Global Universities. The new list measures factors such as research, global and regional reputation; international collaboration; as well as the number of highly-cited papers and doctorates awarded. Overall, UC San Diego was named the 17th best university in the world.

The campaign platform of Mexico’s President-elect Andres Manuel López Obrador included vows to end corruption in the Mexican government and drive out the political mafia running the country. As López Obrador’s Dec. 1 inauguration nears, his anti-corruption strategy continues to take shape. On Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy Center for U.S-Mexican Studies will host a conference, discussing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for López Obrador’s administration.

A leading think tank dedicated to researching global security threats, located on the campus of the University of California San Diego has been awarded ongoing funding by the State of California. From finding ways to mitigate conflict through active dialogue on the Korean Peninsula, to exploring how to address the dangers of nuclear proliferation, such as training the next generation of nuclear policy experts, the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) works with all ten campus in the University of California (UC) system to address pressing and long-term international security concerns and policy challenges.

The University of California San Diego has been named the 30th best university in the world, out of the top 1,000 public and private universities spanning the globe. The 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings also place the campus 20th best in the U.S. based on teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The campus moved up one spot, compared to last year.

The University of California San Diego has been highly ranked among U.S. public colleges by U.S. News and World report. The campus is listed 12th in the publication’s Best Colleges guidebook. The publication also touted the campus’s Jacobs School of Engineering, which was named 18th among public engineering schools that offer doctorates.
