Climate Change Means Shortfalls
in Colorado River Water Deliveries
The Colorado River system supplies water to tens of millions of people and millions of acres of farmland, and has never experienced a delivery shortage. But if human-caused climate change continues to make the region drier, scheduled deliveries will be missed 60 to 90 percent of the time by the middle of this century, according to a pair of climate researchers at UCSD's Scripps Institution of Oceanography. A study of adolescent binge drinkers has found that even relatively infrequent exposure to large amounts of alcohol during the teen years may compromise the integrity of the brain’s white matter, which is critical for the efficient relay of information within the brain. The preliminary findings indicate that binge drinking may be detrimental to the developing adolescent brain. More
