Campus Gets New Lessons in
Going Green at Earth Week Celebrations
They found out how to get a green job. They sampled locally grown, organic food and met local farmers. They explored alternative transportation, such as biodiesel-powered shuttles, hybrid cars and ride-sharing. Members of the UC San Diego community got a crash course last week on greening their lifestyle during a multitude of Earth Week events on campus.

Climate Change Means Shortfalls
in Colorado River Water Deliveries
The Colorado River system supplies water to tens of millions of people and millions of acres of farmland, and has never experienced a delivery shortage. But if human-caused climate change continues to make the region drier, scheduled deliveries will be missed 60 to 90 percent of the time by the middle of this century, according to a pair of climate researchers at UCSD's Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Binge Drinking May Hamper
Information Relay System in Teen Brain
A study of adolescent binge drinkers has found that even relatively infrequent exposure to large amounts of alcohol during the teen years may compromise the integrity of the brain’s white matter, which is critical for the efficient relay of information within the brain. Staff Members Get Taste of
Hawaii at Appreciation Event
The sound of Hawaiian music drifted through the Price Center Ballroom. Polynesian dancers swayed to the rhythm of drums. The smell of Kahlua pork and upside-down pineapple cake filled the air. A little bit of Hawaii landed on campus last week, as the university hosted an annual luncheon for staff members, as part of this year’s staff appreciation events.
