It’s one thing to learn about computer vision, machine learning, control systems, neural networks and tools like Python and TensorFlow in lectures, books or videos. It’s another to learn these skills by actually using them to build and test small autonomous vehicles. That’s what students are doing in a hands-on engineering class at the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California San Diego.
For those on the autism spectrum, getting hired for a job can be a daunting step, especially the interview process. Often, social anxiety and a preference for routine make it difficult for autistic people to communicate their skills and make big life transitions. UC San Diego neuroscientist Leanne Chukoskie recognized an opportunity to help local autistic young adults—an underrepresented population in the STEM field—build their social skills and professional resume.
On Monday, October 15, UC San Diego Health will open a new comprehensive health center located at 16950 Via Tazon in Rancho Bernardo. Described as a “clinic of the future,” the new 57,000 square foot facility will offer patients increased access to a team of top doctors and nurses, and an array of convenient services, such as urgent care and advanced imaging, including a pharmacy and optical boutique.
This fall, the Holocaust Living History Workshop once again launches its year-long series of educational events composed of eight seminars, a documentary film screening and a photography exhibition underscoring this year’s theme, “History, Memory & Meaning of the Holocaust.” The workshops are presented by the UC San Diego Library and the UC San Diego Jewish Studies Program.
Starting in the fall of 2018, UC San Diego Health will be the first health system in San Diego County to implement a policy ensuring that all mandatory reporters are responsible for reporting cases of suspected human trafficking. This policy will be a coordinated effort of administrative and professional staff at all points of entry into the health system.
A leading think tank dedicated to researching global security threats, located on the campus of the University of California San Diego has been awarded ongoing funding by the State of California. From finding ways to mitigate conflict through active dialogue on the Korean Peninsula, to exploring how to address the dangers of nuclear proliferation, such as training the next generation of nuclear policy experts, the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) works with all ten campus in the University of California (UC) system to address pressing and long-term international security concerns and policy challenges.
