Michael “Mick” Farrell, CEO and chairman of Resmed, has been appointed chair of the UC San Diego Rady School of Management Dean’s Advisory Council, where he has served as a member since 2024.
The Dean’s Advisory Council (DAC) brings together leaders from business, finance, accountancy, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and the nonprofit sector who serve as advisors, ambassadors and supporters of the Rady School. Working in partnership with Dean Lisa Ordóñez, council members help strengthen the school’s connections with industry and the broader innovation economy.
Farrell will succeed founding chair Ernest Rady on July 1. Rady, whose foundational support led to the school being named in his honor in 2004, has helped guide the council for two decades and will become chair emeritus while continuing to serve as an active member of the council.
“The Dean’s Advisory Council plays an important role in shaping the Rady School’s future,” said Dean Lisa Ordóñez. “I’m grateful to Ernest Rady for his two decades of leadership and enduring commitment to the school, and to Mick Farrell for stepping forward to serve as chair. Mick brings deep experience in global health technology and a keen understanding of the industries helping to power San Diego’s growth, including its thriving life sciences sector.”
Farrell has served as Resmed’s CEO and as a director since March 2013 and was appointed chairman of the board of directors in January 2023. He joined the company more than 25 years ago and previously served as president of the Americas region from 2011 to 2013 and senior vice president of the global sleep apnea business unit from 2007 to 2011, along with earlier senior roles in marketing and business development.
Headquartered in San Diego, Resmed develops medical devices and digital health technologies used to treat people with sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other chronic conditions. It is the leading health technology company focused on sleep, breathing and care delivered in the home.
Before joining Resmed, Farrell worked in management consulting, biotechnology, chemicals and metals manufacturing at such companies as Arthur D. Little, Sanofi Genzyme, Dow Chemical and BHP.
“San Diego is a global hub for innovation in semiconductors, biotech, medtech, and beyond; the Rady School is helping develop the next generation of leaders to shape that future,” said Farrell. “Connecting business education with industry is how we turn ideas into impact. I’m proud to support the Rady School’s mission and bring students, entrepreneurs and industry leaders together to accelerate innovation, especially in healthcare where collaboration can help expand access to care and improve lives.”
Farrell also serves on the board of the Advanced Medical Device Association (AdvaMed) and in December 2025 was appointed chair of AdvaMed for a two-year term beginning in January 2026. He has served as a director of Zimmer Biomet since December 2014 and became lead independent director in January 2025.
He volunteers with several nonprofit and advisory organizations, including the Boston College Engineering Advisory Board, Rady Children’s Hospital and Father Joe’s Villages in San Diego.
Farrell holds a bachelor of engineering from the University of New South Wales, a master of science in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
